What CBD Oil Actually Does

🧠

Anxiety & Stress

Multiple clinical trials show CBD reduces anxiety in social anxiety disorder and PTSD. A 2019 study found 79% of patients reported decreased anxiety within the first month.

😴

Sleep Quality

CBD appears to address underlying anxiety that disrupts sleep rather than acting as a direct sedative. Studies show improvements in sleep scores, particularly in people with anxiety-related insomnia.

🦴

Chronic Pain

Strong preclinical evidence and emerging human trials support CBD for neuropathic and inflammatory pain. Most studies combine CBD with THC (Sativex), making pure CBD data limited.

Epilepsy / Seizures

FDA-approved Epidiolex (pharmaceutical CBD) is proven to reduce seizures in Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. The strongest evidence base of any CBD application.

Inflammation

Preclinical studies show CBD reduces inflammatory cytokines. Human trials are ongoing. Topical CBD for localized inflammation (joints, skin) shows particular promise.

Emerging

🤢

Nausea

CBD interacts with serotonin receptors involved in nausea regulation. Evidence supports use for chemotherapy-induced nausea, often in combination with THC.

🫀

Heart Health

Early research shows CBD may reduce resting blood pressure and the stress response that spikes BP. Far more research is needed before making any cardiac health claims.

🧬

Cancer Support

Lab and animal studies show anti-tumor properties, but human trials are in very early stages. CBD may help with cancer treatment side effects (pain, nausea). Do not use as a cancer treatment.

⚠ Important Disclaimer

CBD is not a cure for any disease. The FDA has only approved one CBD drug (Epidiolex) for specific seizure disorders. Claims about CBD treating, curing, or preventing diseases are not FDA-approved. Always consult a physician before using CBD, especially if you take medications.

How to Read a Certificate of Analysis (COA)

A COA is the only way to verify what's actually in your CBD product. Here's what to check:

01

Lab Accreditation

Must be ISO 17025 or DEA-certified. Avoid brands with in-house "labs".

02

CBD Potency

Actual CBD mg should be within 10-20% of the label claim.

03

THC Content

Must be ≤ 0.3% for legal hemp products. Verify with HPLC or GC testing.

04

Pesticides

Should show "Not Detected" or below California/Oregon action levels.

05

Heavy Metals

Check for lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury — all should be ND or trace.

06

Date

COA should be less than 12 months old. Potency degrades over time.

CBD Oil Questions Answered

What is the best dose of CBD oil?

Research suggests starting with 20-40mg/day and adjusting gradually. For anxiety, most studies use 300-600mg; for sleep, 25-175mg. The "right" dose depends on your body weight, metabolism, and the condition being addressed. Always start low and increase slowly over 2-4 weeks.

How long does CBD oil take to work?

Under the tongue (sublingual) absorption takes 15-45 minutes. Capsules and gummies take 1-2 hours. Vaping works within minutes but carries its own risks. Effects from a consistent regimen typically plateau after 2-4 weeks of daily use.

Are there CBD oil side effects?

CBD is generally well-tolerated, but can cause dry mouth, fatigue, diarrhea, and changes in appetite. Importantly, CBD interacts with the CYP450 enzyme system, potentially affecting how your body metabolizes certain medications including blood thinners and anticonvulsants. Consult your doctor if you take prescription medications.

How do I verify CBD oil quality?

Always request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) from an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory. The COA should confirm CBD and THC content match the label, and screen for pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and mold. Avoid any brand that cannot provide current COAs.
